About The Old Brewery
The Old Brewery is the development by Pursuit Properties Ltd in the heart of Lewes, East Sussex. It was a derelict grade 2 listed building which was rejuvenated to provide 12 new homes and over 450sqm of commercial space.
Scope of work
- Creation of a communal garden to the rear of the development for residents and businesses, comprising 195sqm of block paved pathways and terraces, Green oak pergola, raised beds, and benches. Panting of small trees and shrubs.
- Construction of two permeable block paved driveways with a total area of 450sqm
- Creation of a new block paved access road to the property as part of a S-278 agreement with the local council
Challenges & Conclusion
The building was grade 2 listed and was surrounded by old cobblestone paving, it was a challenge to blend the new paving in with the traditional. Site access was extremely limited, the garden was built on the site of an old factory where there was no soil so a lot of digging out was required to import topsoil to the correct depth. We slightly altered the pergola design specified to better math the style of the property which I feel worked really well. The planting plan was developed to include species that would thrive in the aspect of this garden and compliment the style of the building and landscaping.
